It’s that time of year again—when Grade 7 learners across the country begin one of the most exciting journeys of their young lives: choosing the high school that will shape their future. For many, this decision is a defining milestone, and picking the right school can make all the difference. Ermelo High School (EHS) welcomed these future scholars with open arms during its two-day Open Day event held on 22 and 23 May.
Over 500 learners attended the event, stepping into the vibrant world of the Erries to experience firsthand what the school has to offer. The Open Day was more than just a tour—it was a full immersion into the traditions, culture, arts, sports, and academic life that define EHS.
With a proud history spanning over 100 years, EHS has built a strong legacy rooted in tradition and culture. This heritage was on full display during the Open Day, showcasing the school's commitment to excellence across generations.
Grade 7 visitors became honorary Erries for the day as they explored various academic departments. From painting sessions in the art room and hands-on computer activities in the IT lab to thrilling science experiments like volcanic eruptions, the learners had a blast diving into what could be their future classrooms. A visit to EHS wouldn’t be complete without lunch at the school’s iconic Club1000, where they were treated like true insiders.
The day concluded with an energetic sports showcase featuring everything from rugby and fishing to dance and athletics.
Adding to the event, well-known singer and TV presenter Pieter Koen joined the festivities on both days. His presence added an extra spark, and he clearly had as much fun exploring the school as the learners did.
For any Grade 7 learner still deciding where to go next, EHS makes a compelling case. With a strong focus on academics and sport, a commitment to creativity and innovation, and values rooted in respect and honesty, Ermelo High School is more than just a place to learn—it’s a place to grow.
