Road conditions in Msukaligwa’s Ward 7 have deteriorated to such an extent that daily travel has become both frustrating and hazardous for motorists and pedestrians. Key streets including Cloete Street, Fourie Street, Murray Street, Burger Street, Oosthuizen Street, and Jan Van Riebeeck Street are marked by potholes and neglect, leaving residents increasingly concerned about safety and accessibility.
The state of disrepair has been worsening for months, despite repeated calls from community members for municipal intervention. Residents say the crumbling road surfaces not only damage vehicles but also pose risks to drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians navigating through the area. For many, what was once an inconvenience has now turned into a daily struggle.
Adding weight to these concerns, Ward 7 Councillor JJ Scholtz recently addressed the issue in a letter to the Municipal Manager. “Despite numerous reports from the public, the Ward 7 Committee, and myself, there has been very little response or action from the municipality,” Scholtz wrote. He warned that the condition of the roads has become “unbearable and dangerous for residents and motorists alike.”
In the same letter, Scholtz called for urgent repairs and maintenance, stressing the broader impact on community life. “This neglect not only hampers daily commutes but also affects the safety and well-being of our community members,” he stated. Residents now await a response from the municipality as pressure mounts for action to restore Ward 7’s failing road network.
