KM Waste Management Solutions (Pty) Ltd, in collaboration with multiple stakeholders and community members, hosted a successful clean-up campaign along the N11 Hendrina Road in Wesselton, Ermelo.
The initiative was supported by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs (DARDLEA), Gert Sibande District Municipality, Msukaligwa Local Municipality, print media, local residents, and waste pickers. Together, these groups joined forces to clean and beautify the national road.
Operating under the theme “Our Community, Our Responsibility”, KM Waste Management Solutions aimed to inspire civic pride, promote environmental awareness, and strengthen the sense of responsibility among residents.
To ensure the clean-up was a success, Fibre Circle — a producer responsibility organisation for South Africa’s paper and paper packaging sector — provided vital resources such as personal protective equipment (PPE), litter-picking sticks, and bulk recycling bags for the volunteers and waste pickers.
The event not only made a visible impact on the area but also fostered unity and awareness ahead of World Clean-Up Day, which is celebrated globally. It also coincided with National Clean-Up and Recycle Week, highlighting the importance of waste management and recycling efforts in South Africa.
According to KM Waste Management Solutions, the campaign served as a reminder that when communities and institutions work hand-in-hand, cleaner and healthier environments can be achieved.
