Residents have endured months of hazardous and unhygienic conditions following a leaking sewer pipe that reportedly began in September 2025, severely affecting living conditions and posing serious public health risks.

After what has been described as persistent follow-ups by the Democratic Alliance (DA), the damaged sewer pipe has now been repaired. The party indicated that while the immediate source of the spill has been addressed, the impact of the prolonged leakage remains a major concern.

According to the DA, the environmental damage, contamination, and deterioration of surrounding areas cannot simply be ignored. The party emphasised that access to a clean and safe environment is a basic human right, not a privilege. It further stated that it will continue monitoring the situation to ensure proper restoration, accountability, and long-term solutions to prevent similar incidents in future.

Residents are hopeful that the repair marks the beginning of full rehabilitation of the affected area, rather than a temporary fix.
