Ligbron Shines at Wildeklawer Interhigh

Ligbron delivered an outstanding performance at the Wildeklawer Interhigh athletics meeting held in Pretoria on 16 February. Hosted by Hoërskool Oos-Moot, the event saw Ligbron compete in Group Nine against Curro Pretoria and Hoërskool Garsfontein B, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams finishing top of their group and returning home with 70 gold, 31 silver and 15 bronze medals.

The Liggie athletes achieved the following exceptional achievements:

  • DeVilliers Dippenaar U15 – Won gold in shot put, discus and javelin, and was awarded Junior Victor Ludorum

  • Darius Boshoff U17 – Won gold in shot put, discus and javelin, and was awarded Senior Victor Ludorum

  • Marjolé Scheepers U15 – Won gold in the long jump, 200m and 90m hurdles, and was awarded Best Junior Track Athlete and Best Junior Hurdles Athlete (Girls)

  • Ellané dos Reis U14 – Set a new interhigh record in the high jump with a height of 1.52m and was awarded Best Highjump Athlete

  • Milla Dippenaar U14 – Won gold in shot put, javelin and discus, and was awarded Best Junior Field Athlete (Girls)

  • Andries Burger U15 – Won gold in the 400m, 800m and 1500m, and was awarded Best Junior Long-Distance Athlete (Boys)

  • Jayden Plaatjes (U15)Best Junior Track Athlete (Boys)

  • Kyla van der Merwe (U17)Best Senior Field Athlete (Girls)

  • Katlego Sibiloane (U17)Best Senior Hurdles Athlete (Boys)

  • Berrie Nel (U15)Best Junior Hurdles Athlete (Boys)

  • Bernè Wentzel (U17)Best Senior Hurdles Athlete (Girls)

  • Yolisa Burger (U15)Best Junior Long-Distance Athlete

  • Mia Breytenbach (U17)Best Senior Long-Distance Athlete (Girls)

A major highlight of the meeting was Ligbron’s relay teams, with all ten relay teams winning their respective races.

Ligbron has expressed pride in the athletes’ achievements and believes the school is well positioned for continued success when it moves up to Group Eight next year.
