A 51-year-old man appeared in the Evander Magistrate’s Court on 02 March 2026 on charges of theft and illegal possession of a firearm with ammunition.
He was arrested during a tracing operation by Evander Detective Services in connection with a November 2025 fuel theft case. While searching a grey Toyota GD-6 bakkie, police discovered a revolver with six live rounds concealed under a seat.
The firearm was registered to the suspect’s father in the Northern Cape. Investigations are ongoing and could lead to further charges.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended members for the arrest, reiterating the police’s firm stance against illegal firearms.
The accused remained in custody and will return to court on 05 March 2026 for a formal bail application.
