Motorists across Mpumalanga are being urged to renew their expired vehicle and driving licences to avoid penalties and ensure smooth travel during the upcoming Easter long weekend.
This appeal was made by the Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr Jackie Macie, who emphasised the importance of staying compliant with licensing regulations.
According to the department, almost 62,000 driving licences and 62,400 vehicle licences in the province are currently due for renewal. Motorists and fleet companies are encouraged to act promptly to avoid fines and possible complications with law enforcement.
Driving with an invalid licence may result in criminal or civil litigation, insurance repudiation, and financial losses. Keeping vehicle licences up to date also ensures that vehicle registrations remain active and legally compliant.
Macie further encouraged vehicle owners with outstanding licence fees to make use of the Department’s Debt Management programme, which allows motorists to arrange payment plans.
Since the project began in September 2024, the department has recovered R20,438,031.54 out of R54,439,994.40 in outstanding licence debt. A total of 623 vehicle owners have already entered into instalment payment arrangements.
Motorists who wish to settle outstanding fees or make payment arrangements can visit the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison’s Transport Administration and Licensing Unit, or contact the department on 060 911 9388.
Authorities are urging motorists not to delay, especially as traffic volumes are expected to increase over the Easter period.
