Msukaligwa Local Municipality hosted a Mayoral Easter Prayer for Road Safety on Tuesday, 31 March 2026, along key routes including the N2, N11 and N17. The initiative, led by Cllr SE Ngovene, brought together officials, stakeholders and community members ahead of the busy Easter travel period, with a strong message for motorists to remain vigilant and prioritise safety on the roads.
The gathering was attended by Members of the Mayoral Committee, councillors and PR councillors, alongside key stakeholders such as SAPS, the IEC, local taxi associations, Eskom and SANRAL. The collective presence highlighted a unified commitment to reducing road incidents while strengthening community partnerships during one of the busiest travel seasons of the year.
Spiritual leaders, including Pastor B Maseko, Pastor T.E Mthembu, Bishop S Malaza, Rev Vilane and Bishop T Maseko, led prayer sessions focused on responsible road use, the protection of travellers, and broader social issues such as gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF). The prayers encouraged both officials and residents to reflect on the importance of accountability and care on the roads.
The municipality reaffirmed its commitment to promoting safer roads, social cohesion and the well-being of residents, while also thanking motorists for their patience and cooperation during the prayer sessions.
