Police said information about illegal mining activities at the property was received by the Crime Intelligence Unit and subsequently operationalised. Investigations revealed that the house was being used for the illegal processing, melting, and refining of gold.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 28 April 2026, while investigations continue, with authorities indicating that more arrests are likely. Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi commended the operation, describing it as a significant step in targeting the broader illegal mining value chain in the province.
