Two suspects, aged 38 and 43, were arrested in Badplaas during the early hours of 22 April 2026 after being found in possession of live ammunition, suspected stolen livestock, and evidence of illegal hunting.
According to a statement issued by the South African Police Service, officers were conducting routine patrols when they responded to information from a security company about suspects detained for alleged illegal hunting. Upon arrival, police discovered bloodstains on the suspects’ clothing, along with two carcasses — one of a wild animal and another of a cow.

One of the suspects was found with a licensed firearm, along with ammunition and a magazine. Police also confiscated four empty cartridges, 11 live rounds of rifle ammunition, a bakkie, three cellphones, an axe, and two large knives. The suspects claimed the cellphones belonged to a third individual who fled the scene before police arrived.
The two suspects were expected to appear at the Emanzana Periodical Court on 23 April 2026, while investigations continue.
