34-Year-Old Nigerian National Arrested for Alleged Drug Dealing in Mpumalanga

A 34-year-old Nigerian national was arrested in Balfour on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, after police allegedly discovered drugs hidden inside a bedroom at a residence in the area.

According to a media statement issued by the Office of the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, members of the Crime Prevention Unit received information regarding a foreign national allegedly involved in the sale of drugs at a certain street in Balfour.

Police reportedly proceeded to the identified address and found the suspect at the premises. Officers then requested permission to search the property. During the search, police allegedly discovered drugs hidden underneath a mattress inside the bed base in one of the bedrooms

The following items were confiscated during the operation:

  • 300 Mandrax tablets
  • One bag of Crystal Meth

The suspect was subsequently arrested on charges related to dealing in drugs and is expected to appear before the Balfour Magistrate’s Court on 27 May 2026.

The SAPS has encouraged community members to continue working alongside law enforcement by reporting suspicious or criminal activities, stating that community cooperation remains important in the fight against crime.
