A march happened this morning up Church Street, starting at Boxer Hendrina Road and heading toward the Msukaligwa Local Municipality Offices. The protesters are holding a 15-minute stand-still there, in a solemn commemoration of the lives lost to gender-based violence.
This stand still is to remember the staggering number of women killed in South Africa — according to Amnesty International, around 15 women are murdered every day in the country because of gender-based violence.
This demonstration is part of a growing wave of public outrage, calling for accountability, justice, and real change to end the GBV crisis.
