On Friday evening, a pedestrian-vehicle accident escalated into chaos when a taxi crashed into the already active scene, further complicating the long weekend traffic situation.
The initial incident occurred as a pedestrian attempted to cross the N11 near the graveyard. Tragically, the individual was struck by a minibus taxi and was declared deceased on the scene by paramedics. Authorities promptly arrived, directing traffic around the accident while they attended to the unfortunate victim.
However, the scene took a dramatic turn shortly after emergency services had started to normalise the situation. A second minibus taxi, travelling towards town, reportedly ignored the traffic officers’ directions. This resulted in a high-speed collision with an SUV, which then struck another car before coming to a halt.
The severity of the situation was underscored by a chilling, tense voice note message from a first responder, shared in a local WhatsApp group, urgently calling for additional emergency workers. The shocked responder described the intensified chaos as long weekend traffic built up on both sides of the incident.
Authorities worked swiftly to regain control over the traffic and managed both accident scenes simultaneously. Multiple occupants from the second taxi sustained various injuries and were transported to the hospital for medical care.
Luckily, no emergency workers were struck by the second accident and escaped harm.
This incident underscores the importance of obeying traffic rules and the directions of authorities, especially at an accident scene. Adhering to these guidelines helps prevent further accidents and ensures the safety of all involved, including emergency responders.
