What better way to end a week celebrating books than with fun, colour, and a little friendly competition?
As part of their ongoing commitment to promote reading and literacy, Summerfields Private School treated learners to a playful reward on Friday, 16 May. The school grounds transformed into a lively storybook scene as learners arrived dressed as their favourite book characters — from super heroes and princes to detectives and cowboys.
But the fun didn’t stop there.
The energy ramped up during a netball tournament that saw the Grade 7s face off against the teachers, with the rest of the school cheering on their team of choice. The laughter and excitement on the sidelines were just as loud as the action on the court.
This joyful ending capped off a week dedicated to the importance of literacy — a skill that touches every subject, every career path, and every moment in life. Through reading, children expand their imaginations, sharpen their comprehension, and build the tools they need for a successful future.
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” — Nelson Mandela
A big thank you to Summerfields for showing that promoting literacy doesn’t have to be all textbooks and tests — it can be exciting, expressive, and full of fun.
