The Msukaligwa Local Municipality has approved the implementation of a Debt Rehabilitation Programme aimed at providing much-needed relief to qualifying municipal account holders with outstanding debts for rates, refuse removal, water, sewer, and electricity services.
Key Features of the Programme
Residential account holders will benefit from a 50% debt write-off, with the remaining 50% payable during the amnesty period. Businesses, churches, and non-profit organisations (NPOs) will qualify for a 30% debt write-off, with the remaining 70% payable within the same period.
The amnesty period will run for eight months, from 1 August 2025 to 31 March 2026, during which structured payment arrangements will be available.
Eligibility Criteria
- Arrears must be older than 90 days as of 30 June 2025.
- Account holders who have previously benefited from amnesty or debt relief programmes will not qualify.
All qualifying participants must settle their payable portion within the eight-month period. Failure to comply will result in the full outstanding debt becoming immediately due.
The municipality is encouraging residents and businesses to take advantage of this opportunity to clear their municipal debts under favourable conditions.
