Msukaligwa Local Municipality has announced an unplanned water supply shortage affecting Ermelo Town and Wesselton, reported on January 16, 2026, at 16:41. The municipality said the disruption is due to reduced production at the Northern Water Treatment Works, caused by deteriorated raw water quality at Brummer Dam and ongoing operational adjustments, including the alternated augmentation between the Northern and Southern systems via the Rietspruit supply pipeline.
The municipality warned that residents and businesses may experience low water pressure, intermittent supply, and temporary outages, especially during peak demand periods. Consumers have been urged to use water sparingly, avoid non-essential water use, and repair leaks, while the municipality said mitigation measures are underway to stabilize production and restore normal supply as soon as possible.
