Two men have been arrested on charges of dealing in drugs after police discovered 97kg of dagga following a vehicle accident near Standerton.

According to SAPS, members of Standerton Visible Policing responded to a collision involving a silver Toyota Yaris and a white VW Polo on the R39 at the Grootdraai Dam T-junction on Wednesday, 3 June.

Upon arrival, officers found the Toyota Yaris with extensive damage to the driver's side. The driver was reportedly unresponsive and was transported to a local medical facility by Emergency Medical Services for treatment.

Police then inspected the VW Polo, which had come to a standstill in a nearby field. During the search, officers discovered several black plastic bags containing dagga.

The driver and passenger of the VW Polo, aged 32 and 26, were immediately arrested. Police seized approximately 97kg of dagga with an estimated street value of R582,000. The vehicle, which bore Northern Cape registration plates, was also confiscated as part of the investigation.

Neither of the suspects was injured in the accident.

The pair face charges relating to dealing in drugs, while the driver will also face an additional charge of reckless and negligent driving. They are expected to appear in the Standerton Magistrate's Court soon.
