The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Mpumalanga has confirmed that a march took place in Witbank on Thursday, 4 June 2026, with an estimated 1,500 participants.
According to SAPS, the march began at a park in Vosman and proceeded to the Witbank Central Business District in the Emalahleni Local Municipality. Police, together with other law enforcement agencies, monitored the event and deployed members to ensure the safety of participants, road users, and the public.

The march reportedly proceeded without major incidents and concluded with the handover of a memorandum to the Executive Mayor of Emalahleni Local Municipality.
During the operation, foreign nationals were processed by the Department of Home Affairs. Authorities said that 14 individuals were found to be without valid documentation to be in South Africa and were subsequently arrested and charged accordingly.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, said police and other law enforcement agencies would remain vigilant and continue enforcing the law. He also warned against vigilantism, urging communities to report criminal activities through legal channels while exercising their right to protest peacefully and lawfully.
