A Toyota Land Cruiser reported stolen in the Ermelo policing precinct has been recovered following a coordinated police operation, leading to the arrest of a suspect.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), members of the Anti-Hijacking Task Team, assisted by Ermelo Visible Policing, Sheepmoor SAPS, Ermelo VIS and Piet Retief SAPS, recovered the white Toyota Land Cruiser in Ermelo on Thursday, 2 July 2026.
Police said they acted on information received at approximately 12:00 regarding the whereabouts of the vehicle, which had allegedly been stolen during an incident at a farm in the Ermelo policing precinct earlier in June.
The information was followed up and officers approached the identified premises. During a search of the property, police recovered the Land Cruiser and found a suspect in possession of the vehicle. Preliminary investigations confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Ermelo.
The suspect was arrested for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, while the vehicle was seized as part of the ongoing investigation. The suspect is expected to appear before the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court soon.
Acting Mpumalanga Provincial Commissioner Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi commended the members involved for their swift response and coordinated efforts. He also encouraged communities to continue providing police with information that may assist in preventing and combating crime.
