A 37-year-old man was arrested by the South African Police Service (SAPS) on 31 August 2026 following allegations that he assaulted his two young children.

Police were reportedly alerted after the principal of a local school contacted authorities about severe injuries observed on one of the children, aged between six and 10. It is alleged that the child had fled from the father and sought help at the school.

Ermelo SAPS Sector Managers Warrant Officer Makhanyi, Sergeant Mokhohlane and Sergeant Sbiya responded to the report and arrested the suspect shortly after the incident was brought to the attention of police.

The children’s biological mother was contacted, and with assistance from the school, both children were taken to hospital for medical attention.

According to information received, the children had scars and injuries on their bodies, while one reportedly had a scar across the face. The father is alleged to have used a whip during the assaults.

The 37-year-old subsequently faces charges of child abuse and assault.

The identities of the children, their parents and the school are being withheld to protect the minors. The allegations have not yet been tested in court.
