October marks Social Development Month in South Africa, drawing attention to poverty, hunger and the needs of vulnerable communities. Although led by the Department of Social Development, the month’s focus also highlights the difference local businesses and residents can make by supporting those in need.

In Ermelo, the Ermelo Toyota team has contributed through donations of maize meal and sanitary pads to local schools and daycare centres.

The Ermelo Toyota Knights delivered buckets of maize meal to Umsebe Primary School, Peter Mabuza Primary School, Tholulwazi Daycare, Zamokuhle Daycare, Laerskool Ermelo and Laerskool J.J. van der Merwe. Their support also extended to Lindile Secondary School, which thanked Ermelo Toyota and the Ermelo uMkhonto weSizwe Party for donating sanitary pads to its learners.

For a child facing a shortage of basic necessities, this support can make a meaningful difference. Food donations can help meet daily nutritional needs, while access to sanitary products can help a learner attend school with greater confidence and dignity.

Social Development Month serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by vulnerable households, while raising awareness of available support services and the ongoing need to address poverty and hunger.
