Ligbron Academy continues to prove its reputation as one of the top ten schools in Mpumalanga, following its remarkable 100% pass rate for the Class of 2024. With 123 learners qualifying for admission to degree studies, the school once again proves its commitment to academic excellence. Adding to this success, two of its learners, Nuraz and Ameen Tikly, recently achieved outstanding recognition in the Allan Gray Entrepreneurship Challenge (AGEC) of 2024.
The AGEC is a program designed to equip high school students in South Africa with entrepreneurial skills. Through an interactive online game, students simulate running businesses and making strategic decisions, closely mirroring real-world entrepreneurship. This initiative provides them with practical business knowledge while promoting innovation and problem-solving abilities.
On Thursday, January 30, representatives from the Department of Education, along with officials from AGEC, gathered at Ligbron Academy to celebrate the exceptional achievements of the Tikly brothers. Ameen, who was in Grade 12 last year, secured 4th place out of 1,500 participants nationwide. His younger brother, Nuraz, a Grade 9 learner in 2024, was the top AGEC player in South Africa and also participated in the National Business Pitching Competition. His business idea, "Give Water," impressed the judges, earning him 4th place nationally out of 250 participants.
These accomplishments not only highlight their brilliance but also showcase their commitment and determination. Having participated in the challenge for the past five years, the brothers have continuously refined their strategies, learning from their experiences and improving their approaches. Their dedication has paid off, as they collectively received up to R25,000 in prize money.
The Allan Gray Entrepreneurship Challenge is open to all learners across South Africa, encouraging participation from students from all schools. Entrepreneurship plays a vital role in shaping the economic landscape, and initiatives like AGEC help young individuals develop the skills necessary for future success.
With their achievements and entrepreneurial spirit, the Tikly brothers are well on their way to making a meaningful impact. Ligbron Academy extends its best wishes to them for their future endeavours and continued success in the business world.
