As part of Ligbron Academy’s ongoing commitment to empowering and supporting their learners, the school hosted a special event on 14 August, also welcoming girls from Laerskool JJ van der Merwe. Together, they had the privilege of hearing from Mel the Storyteller – a popular social media content creator, stand-up comedian, and writer – currently on tour in honour of Women’s Month, bringing powerful messages to young schoolgirls across the country.
With heart, Mel opened up important conversations around challenges faced by girls in the digital age – from cyberbullying and online hate, to the pressure of comparing their lives and bodies to what they see on social media. Her core message was simple but powerful:
“The most important advice I can give any young girl,” she shared, “is to always trust in your own ability and to be proud of who you are.
This marks Mel’s very first tour of its kind, and it’s already making waves in schools throughout the country. Her goal, is to uplift and empower girls with practical tips, emotional support, and a reminder that they are not alone in the challenges they face.
With many more schools lined up across the country, Mel continues her journey – one school at a time, one heart at a time.
