Ligbron cyclists shine at Mankele in MPU-XCO Final

This past weekend, 15 cyclists from Ligbron Academy participated in the Mpumalanga-XCO final at Mankele, near Nelspruit, and achieved outstanding results.

Ligbron is particularly proud of three of its cyclists, Armand Nel, Michael Gouws, and Duane Purcocks, who have qualified to represent Mpumalanga at the SA XCO Cup Series, which will take place on June 28-29 at Cascades MTB Park.

The following cyclists also finished within the top ten in their respective categories:

Sub-Junior Boys (13-14 years):

  • Armand Nel: 2nd place
  • Altus Schabort: 10th place

Girls (15-16 years):

  • Chanè Barnard: 6th place

Boys (15-16 years):

  • Michael Gouws: 3rd place
  • Christiaan Drotsky: 8th place


Junior Men (18-19 years):

  • AJ Bekker: 7th place
  • Hilton Haarhoff: 8th place
  • Ian Swart: 9th place
  • Kenneith Barnard: 10th place

Sub-Veteran Men (30-39 years):

  • Duane Purcocks: 2nd place

Master Men (50-59 years):

  • Grovè Eksteen: 3rd place


This remarkable achievement reflects the cyclists' and their coaches' dedication and hard work. Ligbron Academy is proud of its student's performance and looks forward to supporting their journey as they prepare for the national competition later this month.
