Last Thursday, the stage was set for an exhilarating showdown as Ligbron's 1st girls' cricket team faced off against Hoërskool Generaal Hertzog in the Mpumalanga finals.
Choosing to bowl first after winning the toss, Generaal Hertzog opted for the aggressive approach to put pressure on Ligbron's batters. The game started slowly, with the Ligbron team securing 127 runs for the loss of only two wickets by the end of their innings. The star of Ligbron's batting lineup was Brenda Kirsten, who displayed exceptional skills and composure at the crease, amassing 53 runs off 136 deliveries.
However, during the second innings, when Ligbron took to the field to bowl, the game took an electrifying turn. The Ligbron bowlers demonstrated their aggressiveness and finesse, successfully dismantling Generaal Hertzog's batting lineup. They dismissed Generaal Hertzog's batsmen for 44 runs, leaving the opposition bewildered and defeated. The final wicket fell in the eighth over, thanks to Marli Vorster's exceptional delivery.
Two standout performances came from Nabihah Jassat and Kristen Loyd, who took three wickets, cementing Ligbron's victory and ensuring they clinched the coveted title.
This significant win brings pride to Ligbron High School and secures their place in the prestigious Noordvaal Liga, further showcasing their prowess in girls' cricket.
