Ligbron Akademie vir Tegnologie made a powerful statement at their first athletics meeting of the year, hosting the annual Dup van Rensburg Athletics Event (Dup-dag) on Saturday, 24 January, and securing the overall victory of the day. The meeting marked a strong and confident start to the 2026 athletics season for the school.

Athletes competed across a full programme of track and field events, with Ligbron consistently delivering strong performances throughout the day.
At the end of the meeting, Ligbron Akademie topped the overall standings with a total of 1 651 points, followed by Sutherland with 1 349 points. Bergvlam finished third on 844.5 points, Curro Nelspruit placed fourth with 496 points, while Pongola Akademie completed the standings with 200.5 points.
Several Ligbron athletes delivered standout individual performances. In the boys’ category, De Villiers Dippenaar was named Junior Victor Ludorum and Best Junior Field Athlete, while Darius Boshoff claimed both Senior Victor Ludorum and Best Senior Field Athlete honours. In the girls’ events, Marjolé Scheepers earned the title of Junior Victrix Ludorum and Best Junior Track Athlete, with Milla Dippenaar recognised as Best Junior Field Athlete.
With a dominant overall win and multiple top individual awards, Ligbron Akademie has set a high standard for the season ahead, signalling a promising year of athletics for the school.
