Local author and fitness trainer Mirna Bothma is sharing selected excerpts from her book, When Fitness Ignites the Soul, offering readers a glimpse into the reflections and life lessons captured throughout her writing.

The book explores themes of personal growth, resilience, belonging and the deeper meaning found in everyday moments.

Chapter One: Home sweet home

“Home isn’t just a place. It’s a feeling. It’s kicking off your shoes at the door and not caring where they end up. It’s Sunday braais, where time slows down over sizzling steaks and old jokes. It’s waking up in your own bed and thinking, ‘Yes, this is my safe space …’ It’s the place where we belong.

Home can even be your gym, your happy place – like the studio is my home, with all its familiar smells, equipment, mirrors, photographs, and of course, its people. Home is the feeling you get when you walk into a place that has your name written all over it. A place that feels like a warm blanket. A touch or a look from someone. A moment when you catch yourself smiling only to smile even bigger. A place that lights you up and gives you energy …”

The excerpt reflects one of the core ideas in the book — that “home” is not just a physical place, but something we experience through people, spaces and moments that bring comfort and purpose.

This forms part of an ongoing iNews snippet series, where selected passages from the book will be shared with readers.
