Municipality Steps Up By-Law Enforcement in Ermelo CBD

Msukaligwa Local Municipality conducted a by-law enforcement operation in the Ermelo Central Business District (CBD) on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, to monitor compliance with informal trading regulations and hawkers' permit requirements.

According to Senior Law Enforcement Officer, Solethu Nkambule, the municipality's joined members of the Civic Group March and March, together with the South African Police Service (SAPS), to verify the compliance of street vendors and hawkers operating within the Ermelo CBD.

During the operation, two foreign nationals were arrested after they allegedly failed to provide any official identity documents.


Nkambule urged all street vendors operating within the municipality to ensure that they apply for the necessary permits where required and comply with all conditions attached to their permits, as stipulated in the municipality's by-laws.

Msukaligwa Local Municipality said it will continue conducting compliance operations to promote lawful trading, maintain public order, and ensure that informal trading takes place within the framework of the municipality's by-laws.
