A 64-year-old man has been arrested after his 18-year-old female friend, as described by police, was found deceased at his residence in Wakkerstroom. Police allege that the young woman died after being strangled.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the suspect arrived at the Wakkerstroom Community Service Centre (CSC) at approximately 17:00 on Monday, 20 July, where he allegedly informed officers that he had killed the victim at his residence. Police accompanied the man to the home in the Hlobisa Section of Esizameleni, where he pointed out the room in which the victim's body was found.
Police said the victim was discovered lying naked beneath bedding, with her clothing placed over her face and private parts. Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene and declared the 18-year-old deceased.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased had obtained a protection order against the suspect earlier this month. The 64-year-old was arrested and was expected to appear in the Wakkerstroom Periodical Court on Wednesday, 22 July. Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing.
