The conduct of law-enforcement officers in Mpumalanga has again come under scrutiny after a video surfaced showing provincial traffic officers allegedly assaulting a man believed to be a truck driver.
The latest incident reportedly occurred on the N4 Toll Road near Komatipoort on Friday, 21 August. Footage of the alleged assault subsequently circulated widely on social media, prompting the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison to launch an investigation.
It follows another incident recorded in the province earlier this month, in which a South African Police Service officer was filmed allegedly assaulting a woman outside the Davel Police Station near Ermelo. The woman appeared to be carrying a child during the confrontation.

Responding to the N4 incident, Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Jackie Macie said law-enforcement officers were expected to uphold the law at all times, whether on or off duty.
“We wish to condemn this incident in the strongest possible terms and further indicate that an investigation into the incident is already underway. Once the probe into this deeply embarrassing incident has been concluded, appropriate steps will be taken,” Macie said.
