Police in Breyten are appealing for public assistance to identify a man who died in a suspected hit-and-run on the N11 between Ermelo and Hendrina.
According to SAPS, police were called to the scene near the Breyten turn-off at about 19:30 on Friday, 26 June 2026, after a member of the community reported a suspected motor vehicle accident.
On arrival, officers found an unidentified man lying on the road. He was wearing a black jersey, grey track pants and white Adidas takkies.
Emergency Medical Services personnel certified him dead at the scene. Police said nothing was found in his possession that could assist with identifying him.
It is suspected that the man was struck by a vehicle and that the motorist failed to stop following the incident.
Police are now appealing to anyone who may recognise the description of the deceased, witnessed the incident or has information that could assist in tracing the motorist to come forward.

Mpumalanga Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise also appealed to the community to assist police with the investigation, saying cooperation between SAPS and the public could help bring the person responsible to book.
