South Africans will head to the polls on Wednesday, 4 November 2026, to elect their local government representatives.

According to the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC), voting stations will be open from 07:00 to 21:00, while approved special voting will take place on 2 and 3 November between 08:00 and 17:00.

Voters are reminded that they must cast their ballots at the voting station where they are registered.

What to bring

Voters must present one of the following identification documents:

  • Smart ID card
  • Green barcoded ID book
  • Valid temporary identity certificate

Driver's licences, passports and photocopies of identity documents will not be accepted.

How many ballot papers will you receive?

Voters registered in local municipalities, including Msukaligwa, will receive three ballot papers:

  • Ward ballot – to elect a ward councillor.
  • Municipal PR ballot – to vote for a political party in the local municipal council.
  • District PR ballot – to vote for a political party in the district municipal council.

Voters should make one clear X next to their chosen candidate or party on each ballot paper.
