Women employed by Msukaligwa Local Municipality attended a breast cancer awareness session at the Civic Centre on Thursday, 29 October 2026, where health experts provided information on breast cancer, early detection and mental health.
The session formed part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed annually in October, and highlighted the importance of recognising potential warning signs and seeking medical advice.
Participants were encouraged to become familiar with how their breasts normally look and feel to help identify unusual changes.
Signs to look out for include:
- A new lump in the breast or underarm area.
- Changes in breast size or shape.
- Dimpling or other changes in the skin.
- Changes to the nipple or unusual discharge.

Health experts emphasised that any new or unusual changes should be examined by a healthcare professional, even if they are painless.
Participants were also encouraged to seek advice about appropriate breast cancer screening based on their age and health.
Although breast cancer is more common in women, men can also develop the disease.
The session highlighted the importance of maintaining breast health awareness throughout the year, beyond Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
