According to a report from an anonymous independent investigator with more than 30 years of combined service in SAPS and private security, "this incident was merely an accident". The investigator also stated that he could not find any signs of foul play. Grobler's legal representatives reportedly already handed the report to the court.

Another friend of Grobler, who chairs different agricultural associations, says he is devastated because of false information spreading about this tragic incident. He believes that political parties are using incorrect information regarding this incident to fan the flame of racism and promote political agendas.

Grobler is expected to appear in court again on Friday, 22 July.
