iNews Ermelo, Gerald Young 05 March

Three students of Ermelo Shotokan Karate Academy, Lesedi Twala. Dirk Maritz and Xanadu Smit have qualified for the National Karate Championship in Cape Town from 14 to 16 March. By Eugene Smith. Ermelo Shotokan Karate Academy consists of a group of martial artists and their instructors, who wish to instil the moral code, discipline and courtesy that all good fighters have into the youth in Ermelo. Through intense training, students are taught not to engage in fights, but to understand the dynamics, fitness requirements, self-control and principles of respect that any whole and well-rounded fighter needs. We do not condone violence, but as a mystical warrior once said – β€œIt is better to be a warrior in a garden, than a Gardener in a war.” As it stands, karate has officially been selected as a Summer Youth Olympic Sport, and is also an Olympic Sport in the 2020 Olympics. Currently it is also being considered to be a part of the Commonwealth games. This year we have exciting plans for our Karate Dojo. Our Dojo has three students who have qualified for the National Championships be held in Cape Town from 14th to 16th March and they are really looking forward to representing Ermelo and Mpumalanga at the Nationals.
