The Woodlouse

Woodlice are limited to moist environments such as well-watered gardens and forest litter. Therefore, an infestation of woodlice is usually a sign that your home has sufficient damp and decaying wood for them.
The females carry fertilised eggs in their marsupium, through which they provide developing embryos with water, oxygen and nutrients. Juveniles then go through a series of moults before reaching maturity.
These tiny creatures aren't dangerous. They don't sting, bite or transmit any disease, and they don't cause material damage. Their diet consists of fungi and decaying plant material. They multiply rapidly and are nocturnal; therefore, they can become pests in places such as cellars.
They are a food source for many predators like centipedes and spiders. To control their numbers, the source of dampness needs to be treated. Do not use pesticides, as pesticides kill more than the target pest, and woodlice are beneficial.
