Man fakes hi-jack, now behind bars
Ermelo, Conrad Bouwer
06 October
SAPS Ermelo started their investigation but discovered inconsistencies in some of the man's information initially given in his statement. The investigation team shortly realised that it was a fabricated case and that there was no incident of hi-jacking that took place on the said day.
After SAPS Ermelo members explained to the man about this discrepancy and that his actions amounted to a criminal offence, he was arrested. According to the SAPS statement, he is expected to appear in the Ermelo Magistrate's Court soon.
"The Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela, has sent a stern warning to members of the public not to open false cases as such deeds can land them behind bars."
