The Cancervive EduShow brought energy, colour, and inspiration to BPG Langfontein on Wednesday, 15 October 2025, as part of its mission to raise awareness about cancer and promote early detection. The event, supported by NTP Radioisotopes, attracted community members from the surrounding areas for a day of learning, motivation, and care.
Free cancer screening tests were offered throughout the day, allowing locals to take proactive steps toward safeguarding their health. Qualified medical teams were available to guide participants, answer questions, and provide resources for ongoing care and support. Organisers repeatedly stressed that early detection saves lives, encouraging everyone to know their bodies, get screened regularly, and seek medical help without delay.
Informative educational talks were presented to help the community better understand cancer — including its signs, symptoms, and prevention strategies. Speakers discussed practical ways to lower one’s risk, such as eating healthy foods, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep, quitting smoking, and limiting alcohol intake. Attendees were also encouraged to enjoy the sun safely by wearing long-sleeved clothing, hats, and seeking shade when possible.
The day also included powerful moments as cancer survivors shared their personal stories — detailing how they were diagnosed, the challenges they faced during treatment, and their inspiring journeys to recovery. Their testimonies served as emotional reminders that cancer can be beaten when detected early, and that support, awareness, and courage make all the difference. Discussions on sexual health further highlighted that certain sexually transmitted infections — such as Human Papillomavirus (HPV), Hepatitis B and C, and HIV — can increase the risk of cancers affecting the cervix, liver, and other organs. Community members were encouraged to practice safe sex, get vaccinated where possible, and use free screening services available at local clinics.
The event also promoted Thuto, a WhatsApp chatbot designed to assist South Africans with reliable cancer information and guidance. To start chatting with Thuto, residents can save the number +27 10 442 5324 and send a simple “Hi” to begin.
By the end of the day, the Cancervive EduShow had achieved more than just awareness — it brought inspiration, healing, and empowerment. Through education, survivor stories, and the vital message that early detection saves lives, Langfontein took an important step toward a healthier and more informed future.
