As Transport Month kicks off and the festive season draws near, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) is reminding motorists to renew their vehicle licence discs before setting off on holiday trips.

According to the RTMC, over 1 million licence discs will expire at the end of October, with another 1.06 million in November and 1.11 million in December. SMS and email reminders will be sent to registered motorists to help them stay compliant.

Motorists can conveniently renew their licences via online.natis.gov.za — an easy-to-use platform that has already processed over 5 million renewals since its launch in 2022. The system now averages nearly 8,000 daily renewals, offering secure payment options through Capitec, FNB, and Nedbank banking apps.

The platform also enables users to pay AARTO enforcement orders and even facilitates online vehicle registration and change of ownership, a feature increasingly used by major motor dealers. Between April and October 2025 alone, more than 120,000 ownership changes and 78,000 registrations were processed online.

The RTMC encourages all motorists to renew early and ensure they travel safely and legally during the festive period.
