Ligbron Academy of Technology’s U/16A netball team delivered an outstanding performance this past weekend at the Mpumalanga A-League playoffs in Witbank. With five wins from six matches, the team secured second place in the province – a remarkable achievement that has earned them a spot in the national championships.

Ligbron’s U/16s are one of only three teams from the Gert Sibande district that will compete in the South African Championships after the school holidays. The tournament will be held at Hoërskool E.G. Jansen in Boksburg, where they’ll face off against the country’s top schools.

The proud team includes: Siya Ntuli, Simoné van der Linde, Banele Khanyi, Michaela dos Reis, Sina Sibande, Ruané van der Merwe, Yothandwa Sithole, and Kyla van der Merwe. Their coach, Leoné Bakker, has guided them to this provincial success with dedication and strategic leadership.

Although Ligbron’s first team finished 8th out of 16 in the province, it’s the U/16A team’s determination and spirit that truly stood out. They’ve now established themselves as a national force to be reckoned with.
