Police Seize Dagga Worth R1.5 Million After Suspect Flees Near Breyten

Dagga weighing approximately 260kg, with an estimated street value of R1.5 million, recovered by police in Carolina after a suspect fled and abandoned a vehicle during a chase near Breyten.

Police in Carolina have recovered approximately 260kg of dagga with an estimated street value of R1.5 million following a dramatic chase involving a vehicle with foreign registration plates.

The incident occurred at around 07:00 on Tuesday, 13 January 2026, when police spotted a white vehicle with Botswana registration plates travelling towards Breyten. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off, leading to a pursuit.

The vehicle later came to a stop next to the road, after which the driver locked it and fled on foot into a nearby maize field. Despite an extensive search conducted by police, assisted by private security, the suspect could not be traced.

Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered and seized the dagga. The vehicle was confiscated, and no form of identification belonging to the suspect was found.
