Exciting news for Ligbron Academy of Technology as the school's first golf team secured a runner-up finish at the Golf RSA Mpumalanga Finals, earning a spot to compete at the national championships in KwaZulu-Natal this August.
Ligbron was the only school from the Gert Sibande region to qualify for the national event. Competing against some of the province's strongest schools, the team delivered an impressive performance to finish second overall.
The final standings were closely contested, with Hoërskool Nelspruit claiming first place on 225 strokes, while Ligbron finished on 236 strokes to secure the silver medal position.
The achievement follows a successful Gert Sibande Golf League campaign, where Ligbron’s A-team were crowned league champions, while the B-team and C1-team both finished as runners-up in their respective divisions. The C2-team placed fifth overall. These performances saw the A, B and C1 teams qualify for the Mpumalanga Finals, where they proudly represented the region.
Congratulations to the players and coaches on this outstanding achievement, and best of luck as they prepare to compete on the national stage.
