Another fatal pedestrian-vehicle accident occurred on Wednesday night, 17 July 2024, on the N11 near the SAPS K9 Unit, resulting in the tragic death of a pedestrian. A Volkswagen Polo struck the pedestrian. Despite the prompt arrival of emergency services, the pedestrian was declared deceased on the scene.
Authorities arrived to manage the situation, directing traffic around the accident site and ensuring the safety of other road users.
The police are still investigating the circumstances regarding Wednesday night’s tragic accident. These accidents highlight the ongoing concerns about pedestrian safety on busy roads.
This incident follows another tragic accident a few weeks ago on the N11 near the graveyard on 18 June 2024. In that incident, a pedestrian was struck by a minibus taxi and was declared deceased on the scene by paramedics. This incident took a dramatic turn of events when a secondary accident occurred when a second minibus taxi, travelling towards town, reportedly ignored the traffic officers’ directions. This resulted in a high-speed collision with an SUV, which then struck another car before coming to a halt.
Local authorities urge drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution and adhere to road regulations, especially in high-traffic areas, to prevent such tragedies.
