Serious accident at Voortrekker and Havenga intersection leaves three injured

A severe traffic collision occurred today, 14 August 2024, at the busy intersection of Voortrekker Street and Havenga Road in Ermelo. An SUV and a minibus taxi were involved, and three individuals were injured.

According to reports from the scene, two males sustained leg injuries and were quickly transported to Ermelo Provincial Hospital by ER24 paramedics. One of the injured, who was a passenger in the taxi, was trapped inside the vehicle and required extrication by the Msukaligwa Fire & Rescue Service. His injuries were described as major, while the other male involved suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the SUV also sustained minor injuries and was transported by ER24 to Ermelo Provincial Hospital for further treatment.



The accident led to the destruction of a traffic light pole, contributing to traffic delays in the area as authorities worked to clear the scene. The Ermelo SAPS, along with the traffic department, were present to manage the situation and conduct an investigation into the cause of the collision.

Towing services from Van Wettens, Shesha Towing, and Ermelo Towing Services (ETS) were also on-site. They played a crucial role in swiftly clearing the scene and contributing to the overall safety of the area.



Local authorities urge drivers to exercise caution when approaching intersections and remain vigilant to prevent similar incidents in the future.
