Bakkie Collides Head-On with Coal Truck Outside Ermelo

On Thursday morning before sunrise, a serious collision occurred approximately 7km outside Ermelo at the T-junction of the Chrissiesmeer (N17) and Breyten (R36) roads.

According to reports, a bakkie—traveling from Chrissiesmeer's direction and turning left at the junction towards Ermelo—crashed head-on into a coal truck that was driving in the direction of Breyten. The impact brought both vehicles to a stop about 50 meters from the point of collision, with the bakkie being pushed along this distance.

Emergency services responded promptly to the scene, which was enveloped in misty conditions at the time. The driver of the bakkie sustained serious injuries, while the truck driver suffered minor injuries. Both were transported to hospital by ER24.



Authorities are currently investigating the incident to determine its exact cause.
