A Farmer in Chrissiesmeer survived a violent attack on his farm in the early hours of Friday, 19 September 2025, after being stabbed in the neck with a sharp object.
According to police, the farmer was inspecting his property after noticing that his perimeter fence had been cut when two suspects suddenly confronted him. One attacker stabbed him in the neck, after which the farmer fired a shot in self-defense, wounding a 46-year-old Malawian national.
Police spokesperson Sgt. Thulisie Magagula confirmed that both the farmer and the wounded suspect were taken to hospital for medical treatment. A second suspect fled the scene and remains at large. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect still being sought is currently out on bail and faces charges in other cases in Carolina and Chrissiesmeer.
The injured suspect has since been arrested and placed under police guard in hospital. He faces charges of attempted murder, stock theft, and contravention of the Immigration Act, and is expected to appear in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court once declared medically fit.
