Ligbron learners achieve success in debating and winter sports

Debating

Ligbron recently hosted its internal debating competition as preparation for the national ATKV debating competition later this year.

In the senior home language category, Elioné van Niekerk secured first place, followed by AJ van Niekerk in second and Berné Wentzel in third place.

In the junior home language category, Luan van Niekerk took first place, with Lewellyn Ludik finishing second and Elizka du Toit in third place.

In the first additional language category, Zweli Ngomane walked away with first place. Nkazimulo Ntanzi placed second, while Lindsey Mundava finished in third place.

Winter sports season begins

Ligbron kicked off its winter sports season on Saturday 7 March with friendly rugby and netball matches against HTS Middelburg.

The Liggies’ U14A and U15A rugby teams started the day on a high note by securing victories. The U14A team won 18–12, while the U15A team claimed a 24–20 win.

The first and second rugby teams also delivered strong performances but narrowly lost their matches, going down 26–29 and 12–14 respectively.

On the netball courts, the first team played an exciting match that drew strong support from spectators. The Liggies narrowly lost the game in the final minutes, with the match ending 19–20.

The weekend’s fixtures provided a promising start to the season, with Ligbron’s senior teams showing strong potential for the matches that lie ahead.
