A shocking discovery in Ermelo has triggered an investigation after a pill was allegedly found inside a sealed packet of peanuts purchased from a local shop.
The incident was brought to public attention by Patriotic Alliance member Juliet Basson, who said she was contacted by a community member who allegedly discovered the pill inside the packet of peanuts. Basson then alerted SAPS, which confirmed that an inquiry had already been opened to investigate the matter and determine how the alleged contamination occurred.
According to information shared by Basson, the specific packet of peanuts containing the alleged pill was sent for forensic analysis. Other packets were also examined, and it was reportedly confirmed that no pills were found in any of them.
Basson further stated that the shop involved, although not publicly identified, had been closed pending the outcome of the investigation. Authorities have not yet released the findings of the forensic analysis or confirmed how the pill allegedly came to be inside the packet.
Basson urged residents to remain vigilant when purchasing food products and to carefully inspect items before consuming them.
Residents are encouraged to report any similar incidents to SAPS or the relevant health authorities while the investigation continues.
