Ligbron Academy of Technology students recently participated in the Mpumalanga XCO 1 race held in Middelburg on 23 March 2024. Competing across various age categories, these young cyclists took the course to demonstrate their skills and commitment to the sport.
In the Sub Junior Boys category (13-14 years), Ligbron was represented by Armand Nel, who finished 5th, Lamont Swart, who placed 8th, and Altus Schabort, who secured the 16th position.
Chane Barnard distinguished herself in the Youth Women category (15-16 years), clinching a 5th-place finish.
In the Youth Men's competition for 15-16-year-olds, Michael Gous achieved a notable 4th place. He was closely followed by Wynand van der Westhuizen and Christiaan Drotsky, finishing 8th and 13th, respectively. Dewalt Schabort, MC Dippenaar, Danie van den Heever, and Dylan du Toit made their mark with solid performances.
At the race, Ian Swart clinched third place in the Junior Men's category (17-18 years). In the same age group, Conrad Coetzer and Kenneth Barnard added to Ligbron Academy's accomplishments by securing the 10th and 11th spots, respectively. At the same time, AJ Bekker rounded off the team's performance with a 14th-place finish.
Duane Purcocks admirably represented the Sub Vet Men category (30-39 years) by finishing 5th.
