Ligbron hosts MPU XCO cycling race

This past Saturday, 11 May 2024, Ligbron hosted the third Mpumalanga XCO cycling race on its track. The race featured three tracks to accommodate various age groups and skill levels.

This is the school's second consecutive year hosting a Mpumalanga XCO race. This year, the track was extended to 3.6 kilometres, and additional obstacles were added. The day was a great success, with more than 200 cyclists of all age groups participating.

Twenty-two Ligbron students participated in the race, including two girls for the first time.



The following cyclists finished in the top ten of their races:

Sub Junior Boys (13 – 14 years):

  • Armand Nel - 3rd place

Boys (15 – 16 years):

  • Michael Gouws - 3rd place
  • Bernard Laage - 7th place
  • Christiaan Drotsky - 8th place
  • Matthew Warburg - 10th place

Girls (15 – 16 years):

  • Chanè Barnard - 6th place
  • Landi Pelser - 7th place

Junior Men (17 – 18 years):

  • Ian Swart - 4th place
  • Kenneth Barnard - 6th place

Veteran Men (40 – 49 years):

  • Duane Purcocks - 2nd place

The final race in the league will take place at Mankele, outside Mbombela.
